Below are some heritage-related events taking place in the month of May:

Research the History of Your House Program, May 9
Heritage Triangle experts from Calgary Public Library, City of Calgary Corporate Records, Archives and the Glenbow Library and Archives explore resources to help you uncover the history of your house, whether a hundred years or younger. To honour the centennial of WW1, we will be using the house of a Calgary soldier as an example.

Friday, May 9
1:00 - 2:00
Local History Room
4th floor, Central Library
616 Macleod Tr. S.E.

Register online at calgarypubliclibrary.com or by calling 403-260-2620. For more information, contact Carolyn Ryder at 403-260-2650.

Federation of Calgary Communities’ Partners in Planning: Community Character (elective), May 10
What is “community character”? What is it about the look and feel of places that make them attractive (or not!) and how can we use that knowledge to make good design and planning decisions? This course, combining heritage planning and urban design aspects, addresses the challenges of “city building” while looking at building scale, architecture, landscape and their impact on the public realm from development cycles of the past. Learn about and how a dialogue between the past, the present and the desired future can enhance community character. There is a walking tour portion, so dress appropriately.

The event takes place on Saturday, May 10th at the Cliff Bungalow-Mission Arts Centre, 2105 Cliff Street SW from 9 am to noon. Sign-in for a doughnut (and your name tag) starts at 8:30. Register here: https://calgarycommunities.com/events/month/.
