What ultimately happens to the building, which is owned by the province (a legacy of its Mount Royal College days) is of great interest to heritage advocates. It is also part of a significant collection of major buildings from different eras in Calgary's history, including the Mewata Armoury (1917) and Planetarium (1967) across the street.

The Kerby Centre has announced plans to ditch its longtime building for roomier digs along Bow Trail - and it may leave its name downtown as well.
