What exactly was this build that made it so important at one time they build the Palliser Square Parkade around it rather then tearing it down? I suspect it had something to do with the railroad and its operations.

Does anyone know the history of that building?

You know when I took that pic, I always occured to me that that building was built after the building above, not before, but now I'm not so sure.. I'll have to enquire.

I think it pre-dates the parkade - the architecture is kind of 40s-50s - and I also think it had something to do with the railway. More than that I don't know. Any CPR experts out there?
