In the heart of Calgary’s inner city, two historic apartment buildings are home to a close-knit community of artists and urbanites.

The Moxam and Congress buildings, constructed in 1911 at the heart of boomtime by John Moxam (who acquired the land from Sir James Lougheed, next-door neighbour and the original landowner), were the pinnacle of modern architecture. A century later, the buildings’ 35 apartments are rented to musicians, designers, filmmakers, journalists, actors, artists, hair stylists and more, a collection of Calgarians whose vibrant stories ring from the yellow-brick walls.

Beautifully documented by award-winning photographer Heather Saitz herself a Moxam resident), The Building Project collects intimate photographs of these diverse residents in their homes and studios. The book also contains a detailed retrospective of the Moxam and Congress buildings by neighbour and arts journalist Tim Christison.

Limited 1st edition hardcover books, signed and numbered, will be for sale on opening night only. Come celebrate community, affection and creativity at this exhibition of uniquely Calgarian photography.
