and you won't want to miss the programs in the History and Heritage section.

A highlight this fall is the Heritage Weekend, October 19-20 at the Central Library. Whether digging up history in your own back yard or exploring the future of the city, Heritage Weekend 2012 will illuminiate and celebrate our city's growing appetite to understand its own past. Programs include:

Calgary Heritage Authority's popular program series, Heritage Matters on Friday evening, October 19 at 5:30. Come and hear about the Century Homes Project and the homeowners' journey to capture their house history.

You can then join Fred McCall Jr., Shirlee Matheson, and other guests as they look at the life of Freddie McCall; a hero of Calgary's amazing aviation history from 7 to 9. The Aero Space Museum of Calgary which will also provide a variety of artifacts and art to enjoy.

Saturday starts off at noon with Canadian Heritage in our Midst. Learn about Canada's nationally significant heritage found right here in Calgary! Join a Community Heritage Roundtable panel discussion on this fascinating topic.

Then, stay for author Stephanie White as she explores a century of plans for Calgary, some remaining unrealized, others waiting for their time to come in the program Unbuilt Calgary from 1-2.

Stories of Calgary brings together some of Calgary's finest historian-storytellers. Historian Laureate Harry Sanders, and distinguished historians and authors Hugh Dempsey, Max Foran and Nancy Townshend will recount fascinating and entertaining stories of Calgary's past. This session is hosted by Library Writer-in Residence and author of the Calgary Public Library Inspiring Life Stories and master storyteller Brian Brennan from 2 to 4.

You won't want to miss the Meet and Greet session from 4-5 where you can talk to representatives of some of Calgary's heritage organizations and heritage advocate groups. See you then!
