Community naming sparks debate

It's probably fair to say that most heritage-minded people find community naming to be an opportunity for recognizing historical figures and events, particularly related to the piece of land being developed. There has been quite a bit of news recently about how communities in Calgary are named. Some are named for geographic or historical features/figures, and others, it seems, purely for marketing purposes. The City has to approve these names so there is some public role.
