At the most recent 17th Avenue Design Strategy public forum,

we were presented with some 'ideas" the city-hired consultants came up with for various parts of 17th ave. Unfortunately these plans are not yet up on the city website, other than this link to the subject area:

If you were able to attend, what are your comments on the ideas? If you were unable to attend, I'll post a link to the ideas once they are published on the city website.

Four ideas to consider for the 17th Avenue strategy:

1. Complete the heritage inventory for 17th Avenue... a number of potential heritage buildings have not been surveyed

2. Commit to protect heritage assets thereby identified

3. 'Faux historicism' (e.g. Mt. Royal Block replacement) in new developments discouraged http://www.tonko.com/pdf/property_brochures/mtroyal.pdf

4. Opportunities for historic interpretation - e.g. the 8000 year old native habitation archeological site near Tomkins park (Mona Lisa site), Sherman Rink fire (Humpy Hollow at Centre Street), famous streetcar crash site at Crooks drugs, etc.
